Silverstone - Sunday 30th April 2016.

Race Report by Carl Chambers

Car: 306 Rallye

Just a week after we were at Croft we were back with our good friend David Cox at Silverstone, and he had brought out his 306 BTCC to play. It was very lucky that the car had made it at all as on the motorway traveling to the circuit his car had broke loose from its straps inside his race shuttle and had smashed open the rear door or the trailer! With lots of luck it didnt quiet fall all the way out and David noticed it in time so stopped to re strap the car down again! No damage was done to the car at all, just a scratch on the rear bumper!

It was nice and dry in qualifying so we got in some good laps! But Mike Jorden was flying in the Honda DC5 and was 1.5 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed Honda of Russell Hird. I was 0.3sec behind Russell 3rd on the Grid. David Cox was in 8th with his 306.

Race

Rain had come and quickly good in the lunch hour and the track was fully dry again. I had a good start but the 2 Hondas also got away well, as did Tom Mensley in his Clio so we were 4th early on but just keeping in touch with the leaders. At the pit stops, Russell had a 30 sec penalty from his win at Snetterton, Nigel Ainge had dropped back so Tom was leading in the Clio with me giving chase in 2nd!

Mike Jordan took over Nigels car and was flying! He was nearly 2 seconds a lap quicker than myself and Tom, then within 5 laps he had caught and passed me! I did well to hold him off for 2 corners! I then tried to keep with him as best as possible and with both closed the gap on Tom.

After a few more laps Mike had passed Toms Clio with ease, I was now within sight of Tom but time was running out! It was now the last lap so it was now or never to get past, and back markers were now ahead. Tom went one way, the back markers went the other, leaving a very small gap in the middle! That was my chance, and to be honest Im amazed I got through! Last corner was just holding my line with Tom very close behind and wanting the place back! I had just enough power to keep him at bay to claim 2nd place overall!

David Cox finished 9th in his 306 BTCC.
