TARC Tricolore Trophy Thruxton Round 3

Thruxton is still a place that scares Carl!! To make things worse our qualifying was straight after the racing trucks were out, oh and it was wet after raining all night! Just what Carl was not wanting!

After we found the Yoko 048 were rubbish in the wet Carl had got some new Toyo 888s. Sadly these were brand new so hadnt been scrubbed in but Carl took the brave pills and went out!

After the trucks had spread diesel around, things were very slippery! Everyone was struggling. Carl pushed had on 1 lap and totally lost it coming into the Club chicane, but it came back round at just the right time and was almost perfect through the chicane rally style! He could not have done it better if he tried and probably could not do it again! The result was pole position by 1.5 seconds!!

Race 1

Pressure was on starting from pole, and the start did go well, Carl got the lead and held it for 3 laps. Things had now dried out for the race and Carl was still on the Toyo 888s, sadly he should have changed them for the Yokos.
Simon in the Saxo was flying and again was getting out the corners so quickly, in the Cobb chicane he could pull 2-3 car lengths on Carl so lap 4 he passed him. Carl's car was better towards the end of the straights, but not enough to get back past! He chased him hard for the remaining laps and his tyres also started to go off. On the last lap he saw a chance to pass into Club Carl braked really late to go down the inside, but at the last moment Simon closed the door and sadly he gave him a little love tap and jumped the curbs! This resulted into a great picture, 2nd place was Carls but only 0.6 seconds behind 1st!

Race 2

Carl swapped the tyres to the Yokos for race 2. Starting from 2nd place he made a great start, and tried to stick it out round the outside again but we know that doesnt work! Matthew in the 106 had made an amazing start, so good that many had said he had jumped the start! Into Club he just went totally round the outside of both Carl and Simon and still manage to get it stopped! Simon braked hard to let him in which resulted in Carl giving him a little kiss again, dam it! Matthew had gone from 14th on the grid to 1st place in one lap! But because Carl had to brake hard not to kiss Simon in a big way, he lost momentum and dropped to 5th place! Within a lap he was back past David in the 5 GT Turbo, 2 laps later Carl got back past Wills 205, and set about once again chasing Simons Saxo. Carl is getting a bit fed up of looking at the rear of Simons Saxo!

Its seems Matthew had pushed so hard early on and just killed his tyres, so both Carl and Simon were catching him. 1 lap from the end Matt went slightly wide, Simon tried to go through the gap just as Matt closed it which resulted in Matt getting pushed off the track into the barriers! He was not happy! Carl was also lucky as he was tucked in right behind the Saxo so very lucky not to collect them both. Seeing it was the last lap and the Saxo was now hobbled he passed him, all was going well and looking to finally get the win, until the Club chicane, a back maker was right in the way and never saw Carl coming (god knows how in a dayglo green car!) Simon pounced there was just enough of a gap to fit a Saxo through and the drag race to the line! He won by 0.16 sec!! Half a front wings length! Carl was gutted! Still it was another 2nd place but so close!
Carl WILL! get that Saxo next time!
